Stranraer Development Trust was formed by a group of people who were concerned about the downturn of the town. The Trust received charitable status in February 2016 as a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation). The primary aims of the Trust are to achieve sustainable regeneration of the community of Stranraer addressing a range of economic, social, environmental and cultural issues through the advancement of community development (including the advancement of urban*/ rural* regeneration) principally within the Community; The advancement of health and well-being; The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage; The advancement of the arts, culture or science; The advancement of environmental protection or improvement of the locals terrestrial and marine environments; The provision of recreational facilities or the organisation of recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. It will take forward projects that will increase opportunities, improve the attractiveness of the town, attract more visitors and revive the lost sense of pride in the town and what it has to offer.
The Board of Trustees have been delighted by the overwhelming support from the people of the town. We now have over 200 members - that number grows every week and we’ve received donations of over £4,000 from a wide range of supporters.
Membership is free and open to all residents within the catchment area as defined by the areas of Stranraer Community Council and Ochtrelure & Belmont Community Council. (Associate Membership is available to residents or oganisations outside these areas who support the objectives of the Trust – Associate Membership are not able to vote at AGMs).
We are still looking for more members, it costs nothing to be a member only the time to complete a simple form. You don’t even need to live in the town, wherever you live if you are supportive of our aims you can join as an Associate Member.
Being able to demonstrate that we have the support of the local community by having as many members as possible is very important to show potential funders that we have your backing.
“Whatever we do and whatever we achieve, we must do it together. Not for any one person or group or individual business but for the good of the town of Stranraer today, tomorrow and long into the future” ...Romano Petrucci, Chairman
