February 2024

During the summer, we had our first Outdoor Cinema event which was a great success, where lots of families enjoyed Paw Patrol and Shrek movies and even got to meet some of the stars of the show! The perfect way to end the summer working alongside brilliant organisations in town to provide a free day out for families and young people.

Then just like that it was time for the Stranraer Oyster Festival, where our incredible team of young volunteers and adult volunteers stepped up eager to do their bit to help the weekend go smoothly! We could not have done it without them and rain or shine they were still smiling and happy to join us! If you would like to become a Volunteer at the 2024 Oyster Festival then head on over to https://stranraeroysterfestival.com/volunteering.

Our Stranraer Youth Developers helped the year go out with a sparkle with some fun Christmas activities! From Childrens' Christmas Crafting sessions at the Millennium Centre, where we decorated Christmas cards/baubles/ holiday wreaths. We garnered our Christmas spirit to withstand the cold and created Christmas chocolate reindeer cones to be handed out at the Christmas Lights switch on at the Castle Square and also joined forces with the Millennium Centre in handing out Chocolate Stranraer Primary Schools.

New Plans For The Future

Plans for the Future of Stranraer have already started to happen including Renovating The George Hotel and the Development of the Waterfront. All of which will reinvigorate Stranraer, which is great for all involved, locals and visitors alike.

Copies of this publication are available in Gateway to Galloway for anyone who wishes one.

The South of Scotland Destination Alliance (SSDA) are Establishing ‘Scotland Starts Here’ as the destination brand for the region. They are also trying to establish an extended Season to encourage all year round Tourism. If anyone has Winter photos and would like to share them please contact us.

Recently Staff and Volunteers had a Christmas night out, enjoying a meal at the Northwest Castle Stranraer
